Can tourists open a bank account in the UAE?

Yes. On 30 April 2026, CBUAE, ICP, and ADCB launched the Tourist Identity initiative — biometric/facial onboarding on arrival for a UAE bank account and digital debit card (Jaywan + Aani connected) within minutes. ADCB is the launch partner. remit.ae does not open bank accounts — contact ADCB or CBUAE for current availability.

Tourist Identity Initiative

On 30 April 2026, the UAE Central Bank (CBUAE), the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP), and ADCB launched the Tourist Identity initiative.

It enables tourists to:

  • Use biometric/facial recognition on arrival
  • Open a UAE bank account in minutes
  • Receive a digital debit card connected to the Jaywan national card scheme
  • Access Aani instant domestic payment features

How tourists can pay cashless in UAE

International Visa/Mastercard

Your existing contactless debit/credit card works at most UAE terminals.

Apple Pay / Google Pay

Widely accepted at UAE retail, transport, and hospitality.

Tourist Identity ADCB card (Jaywan)

Available via the Tourist Identity initiative (April 2026). Contact ADCB to verify current availability.
