The UAE Dirham (AED) is fixed to the US Dollar at exactly 3.6725 AED per USD — this is the CBUAE official peg rate and does not change. The Ethiopian Birr (ETB) rate against AED changes when the ETB moves against USD.
Over the past 30 days the AED to ETB rate has been in the 15.00–15.15 range. The birr's gradual managed depreciation trend continues under the IMF programme.
Corridor note: Ethiopia supports bank deposit to major banks (CBE, Awash, Dashen). Cash pickup is available at some exchange houses. Provider coverage is more limited than INR/PKR corridors.
Over 90 days (March–June 2026) the rate moved from 14.90 to 15.10 — a 1.3% depreciation of the birr. This is in line with the managed float trajectory established under Ethiopia's IMF reform programme.
Around mid-March 2026 the AED to ETB rate was approximately 14.90 ETB per AED. The birr has continued its gradual managed depreciation trajectory.
WorldRemit, Remitly, and some UAE exchange houses serve the Ethiopia corridor. Provider availability is more limited than major corridors like India or Pakistan. Check remit.ae for current provider list and rates.
The AED is pegged to the USD (strong). The Ethiopian birr is managed by the NBE with a gradual depreciation policy, partly driven by IMF programme conditions and Ethiopia's FX reform agenda. The birr has lost value against the USD since 2024.
