The UAE Wage Protection System explained for new residents and workers. General education — not legal or employment advice.
What is the UAE Wage Protection System (WPS)?
WPS is a UAE Ministry of Human Resources (MoHRE) system requiring private sector employers to pay salaries electronically through CBUAE-approved financial institutions. It ensures workers receive their agreed salaries on time. Your employer handles WPS registration — you need a bank account at their designated WPS institution. remit.ae is not part of WPS — this is general education only.

How WPS Affects a New UAE Worker
Your employer registers you on WPS
When you start a new job, your employer registers you on the WPS system and specifies which bank or approved institution will receive your salary. You don't register yourself.
Employer procedures vary. Consult your HR department.
You open an account at the designated bank
You open a salary account at the bank or exchange house your employer uses for WPS. This is typically done with the help of your employer or HR team.
remit.ae does not open bank accounts. Requirements vary by bank.
Your salary arrives on a set date
Under WPS, your employer submits salary payments electronically. You receive your salary in your bank account on the agreed date. If delayed, MoHRE has enforcement mechanisms — not remit.ae's area.
Not employment advice. For salary disputes, contact MoHRE.
You can send money home once salary arrives
Once your salary is credited, you can send money internationally via your bank app, an exchange house, or a digital app. Compare options for your corridor before each transfer.
Always verify rates and fees with the provider before sending. remit.ae does not transfer money.
